چکیده

In this paper firstly, the dynamics of LC-circuits without excess elements is expressed in terms of contact systems encompassing in a single formulation the Hamiltonian formulation and the pseudo-gradient formulation called the Brayton-Moser equations. Indeed the contact formulation encompasses both the Hamiltonian system and its the adjoint variational system. Secondly we express the dynamics of RLC-circuits with linear resistors in the contact formalism by extending the state space to an associated space of Thermodynamic phase which again encompasses as well the Hamiltonian formulation with dissipation as the BraytonMoser formulation.

On Passivity and Power-Balance Inequalities of Nonlinear RLC Circuits

Arbitrary interconnections of passive (possibly nonlinear) resistors, inductors, and capacitors define passive systems, with power port variables the external source voltages and currents, and storage function the total stored energy. In this paper, we identify a class of RLC circuits (with convex energy function and weak electromagnetic coupling), for which it is possible to “add a differentia...

A geometric Birkhoffian formalism for nonlinear RLC networks

The aim of this paper is to give a formulation of the dynamics of nonlinear RLC circuits as a geometric Birkhoffian system and to discuss in this context the concepts of regularity, conservativeness, dissipativeness. An RLC circuit, with no assumptions placed on its topology, will be described by a family of Birkhoffian systems, parameterized by a finite number of real constants which correspon...

A History of Network Synthesis and Filter Theory for Circuits Composed of Resistors, Inductors, and Capacitors

This paper is an informal history of the birth and growth of network synthesis and filter theory, as it was developed for RLC circuits. It includes events, experiences, and anecdotes which are not all well documented but may make interesting reading. Other papers in this issue are histories of other aspects of circuit theory; for the most part descended from the RLC theory.

Asymptotic waveform evaluation for timing analysis

For digital system designs the propagation delays due to the physical interconnect can have a significant, even dominant, impact on performance. Timing analyzers attempt to capture the effect of the interconnect on the delay with a simplified model, typically an RC tree. For mid-frequency MOS integrated circuits the RC tree methods can predict the delay to within 10 percent of a SPICE simulatio...

Three Steps to Chaos-Part 11: A Chua’s Circuit Primer

Linear system theory provides an inadequate characterization of sustained oscillation in nature. In this two-part exposition of oscillation in piecewise-linear dynamical systems, we guide the reader from linear concepts and simple harmonic motion to nonlinear concepts and chaos. By means of three worked examples, we bridge the gap from the familiar parallel RLC network to exotic nonlinear dynam...
